nari reveals new trends in remodeling

As many of our projects here at taste are remodeling and renovation projects, we definitely take note of new and recurring trends in the remodeling industry. Knowledge of these trends allows us to serve our clients to the best of our ability.

Earlier this summer, the National Association of the Remodeling Industry (NARI) revealed the most common trends noted in its Contractor of the Year (CotY) Awards. We’ve listed some of them below – take a look and see if any of these ideas are some you might wish to incorporate into a remodeling project for your own home.

Reclaim, reuse and refurbish – NARI noted that several CotY award-winning projects incorporated reused or repurposed items for a variety of reasons ranging from homeowners wanting to save as much as they can to “preserving the historical charm of their homes.” One of our projects here at taste this year was a carriage house renovation in which we used reclaimed barn beams in the family room.

Pocket doors – Pocket doors are becoming a favored form of doors in spaces that lack enough room to place a swinging door.

Sunrooms – Sunrooms offer expanded living space inside and outside of the home and best of all, allow you to enjoy the sunshine at most anytime of the year.

Subway tile – One CotY award winner noted half of his clients were choosing subway tiles for their projects. Subway tiles are great because they are durable, available in an assortment of sizes and colors, and add a bit of a modern touch to kitchens and baths. Below is a photo of one of our projects that was featured on Houzz earlier this year, which features the use of subway tiles.

You can visit the NARI website for additional information about these rising trends in remodeling.
